The department has extensive equipment which makes it possible to perform measurements and inspection tasks for the related research projects. A selection of these test benches is presented in the following.
Wind Power Test Bench
The realistic wind energy test bench provides the possibility to emulate fluctuations of wind energy. This includes long-term fluctuations on the one hand and fluctuations by gusts on the other hand. Different control strategies can be analysed with regard to the impact of the fluctuations on the mechanical and electrical parts of the power train, the rotor blades and the grid.
Dynamometer for Electric Vehicles
Using the roller test bench, electric vehicles can be tested with modifiable driving cycles to examine energy efficiency and energy recovery (recuperation) under different driving conditions. A realistic emulation of low up to extreme driving loads is offered.
Electric Vehicles Test Fleet
The vehicles are equipped with high resolution measurement devices and data loggers. On the one hand, they can be tested in the laboratory and on the one hand and they are periodically given to test drivers with different user profiles in a field test. Thus, the vehicles and their components are examined with regard to the suitability for daily use.
Battery Test Bench
Equipped with a load unit and extensive measurement devices, the battery test bench allows for observing and analysing of battery characteristics. Therefore, the functionality and performance of battery management systems can be examined and weak spots can be identified systematically.
Rapid Prototyping System
This real-time hardware system can be used for the extensive testing of hardware-in-the-loop systems. It enables both, the data recording and a real-time parameter adaption and signal output on the target system, respectively. Thereby, the target system can be fully analysed regarding its behaviour including the impact of disturbance variables.
Photovoltaics Test Bench
The photovoltaics test bench with several control and measurement devices was developed to identify losses and potential improvements in the field of solar technology. In favour of these aims, different control strategies for maximum energy output can be integrated under different solar radiation values including shadowing effects.
High-Power Direct Current Source
The high-power DC source offers a variable DC power supply which can be used in particular for the simulation of battery systems, for instance regarding the application in the field of electromobility.
High-Power Puls Direct Current Source
As part of the development in the fields of renewable energy technology and the mobile use of electrical energy storage systems is important. To protect users and downstream systems and to separate, a protection system is required. The reliability of these systems is a decisive factor for safety. It depends on the concept and on the selection of individual components and of the expected load on the system. The developed high-power pulse source is suitable to qualify these systems and components as well as to check the safety strategies. Focus is on assessing short circuit situations and if they can be reliably controlled.
